Abstract
This study conducted a survey on 91 parents who were using the welfare center for people with developmental disorder and day care centers located in B city to investigate music use depending on the resilience of parents of children with impairments. The questionnaires composed of a total of 60 questions, including 7 demographic characteristics, 17 music use, 10 purpose of music use, and 26 resilience, were distributed to 91 respondents, and the results from analyzing 53 collected questionnaires are as follows. First, in the music use of parents of children with impairments, the frequency of listening to music was higher than that of singing or playing musical instruments, and they were mostly listening to popular music when driving or taking a rest. Second, for the purpose of music use, mood change and enjoyment ranked high, and worry decreasing and problem overcoming were relatively low. Third, in music use depending on the resilience of parents of children with impairments, there were found significant differences among the frequency of music listening, instrumental playing, and the reason for music use. In addition, there was shown a significant difference between the group with high resilience and the group with low resilience for the purpose of music use. This study can be utilized as basic data to develop music intervention programs of emotional support for parents of children with impairments through elucidating the music use of them.
